Rooftop Perfection: Designing a Cosy Escape with Terrace Plants

Rooftop Perfection: Designing a Cosy Escape with Terrace Plants

Posted on July 29, 2025 in Home DIY Decor by Eliza

This happened a few years ago. One look at my terrace garden changed me. It was a pleasant morning, the tea was nice, but the dull grey colour of the once done cement was something I wasn’t so sure about.

In the beginning, I was honestly overwhelmed. Searching online often comes with endless options for buying plants for a terrace garden. Perhaps some climbers to add a bit of drama? Or should I overdo it? But soon, I realised that the beauty of a plant terrace lies in its variety; it’s a canvas where you can blend greenery with your personality.

As a result, I started small. I scrolled online and got plenty of options. With the help of a few potted marigolds, some fragrant jasmine, and of course, the classic money plant twisting its way around the railing, the terrace garden was good to go. Within weeks, I made an area around which I could plan my weekly parties. It all started looking more alive. And, also led me to recommend a few things to you.

Here’s To Choosing the Right Terrace Plants

I consulted a plant expert from my family who told me the secret. It’s that when you’re selecting terrace plants, it’s important to consider a few basics like sunlight, wind, and space. Then I observed how my terrace garden gets plenty of sun, opening doors to several sun-loving beauties like hibiscus, bougainvillaea, and succulents. There’s no fuss in growing them at home. You just have to follow a simple plant care routine and make a lively space.

For shady corners around my balcony, I added ferns and peace lilies. Once you incorporate this, it helps you create a soothing vibe. Trust me, if you’re looking for a space to unwind, then there’s something incredibly calming about sitting among plants swaying gently in the breeze, especially after a long day.

I have also dedicated a small corner for herbs and vegetables. Fresh mint for my summer drinks, basil for my pasta, and even a few cherry tomatoes soon became part of my daily routine.

There’s an online business called Urvann, delivering plants around Delhi NCR and Bangalore. I found vegetable seeds there, which further help me grow my own food (like spinach and coriander) even in small quantities – I’m talking about some satisfactory lunches and dinners ahead. Plus, these plants for terrace garden setups don’t require a lot of space — just a few containers, regular care, and a little love.

Maintenance of Cosy Escape on Terrace

As my plant terrace grew, so did my love for this space. I added a few cosy chairs, fairy lights, and a small table. Now, my mornings begin with a cup of tea amidst my leafy companions, and evenings often end with a book under the stars.

Friends who visit often compliment the peaceful vibe. Some even say it feels like a mini vacation spot right at home. And honestly, it is. My terrace has become my retreat. Of course, it took some of my attention and patience. Simple things like regular watering (but not too much!), occasional pruning, and seasonal care keep the plants thriving. I’ve also learned to watch out for pests and use organic remedies to keep my garden healthy.

You don’t need to invest big in buying plants or planning a garden. You have to find someplace on the internet that’s affordable enough to make a difference in your garden. That’s how I found Urvann, where good quality pots and plants can be made available to you the next day via free home delivery.

Final Thoughts

To be honest, transforming my terrace was one of the best decisions I’ve made. The plants I place there don’t just beautify my space, but also give me a sense of accomplishment. So if you’ve been staring at your empty rooftop wondering what to do with it, take this as your sign. Start small, pick the right plants for terrace garden settings, and watch your cosy escape come to life.
